Option 2 (Some DIY (Do It Yourself) involved - $$)
Many of our customers want to add the rocks to their gabion baskets themselves, but they want us to professional build and install the gabion baskets for them. In this option we would build your gabion baskets to your specifications and we would also install the baskets at your location, including building the foundation, concreting in support posts, connecting and leveling the gabion baskets, etc., ready for you to add your own rock to the gabions to complete the project.

From Start to Finish

Option 3 (No DIY (Do It Yourself) involved - we do it all - $$$)
Most of our customers want a complete gabion product, professionally completed from start to fininsh. In Option 3, we would build your gabion baskets to your specifications; we would install the cages at your location (including build the foundation, concreting in support posts, connecting and leveling the gabion baskets, etc.) and we would also add the rock to the cages, and add any other features to the gabions (like wood or angle iron framing), to complete the project.

How to Fill & Save Money

Partitions

Partitions are a cheap way to backfill cages.

The partition creates a separate compartment at the back of the cage. This compartment can be filled with cheaper material as long as it is 80mm+ and can drain water

PRO

  • Cheaper than using quarried stone
  • Reduces bulging
  • Enables machine filling
Rubble Sacks

Rubble sacks are a cheap way to backfill cages.

The sacks should be permeable and filled with hard rubble larger than 10mm+ which can drain water

PRO

  • Cheaper than using quarried stone

CON

  • Not suitable for retaining walls
  • Not suitable for wall taller than 1.5m

Machine Filling

It is possible to fill the cages with a machine such as a JCB but it makes bulging more likely

Add support poles and partitions to reduce the likelihood of bulging.

Hand filing is still required at intervals to fill in voids left by the machine

PRO

  • Quicker installation for large jobs

CON

  • Increased voids
  • Increased likelihood of bulging
