Important Detail about Switchable Smart Film

While Switchable (PDLC) Smart Film and Smart Glass are very innovative products there are few things you should know before purchasing them.

Northglass are exported all over the world and different industries with quality first. Our belief is to provide our customers with more and better high value-added products. Let's create a better future together.

We are sharing with you some things that most Smart glass manufacturers won&#;t.

1. Haze

Smart Glass and Smart Film go to clear to opaque in a flick of a switch providing privacy on demand however when the glass is switched to clear there can be a slight haze.

This can not be avoided due to the presence of small droplets that reflect the light, although there are ways to minimize it.

PriWatt&#; Film has the lowest haze level (2.6%) on the market today, however, under certain light conditions, the glass will reflect. This will sometimes be more obvious when the glass is viewed from an angle.

When positioned at a direct angle you will get the highest level of transparency and the lowest level of haze. As the viewing angle becomes wider, the level of haze increases.

This phenomenon is known as Wide Angle Scattering, which causes haze due to the loss of transmissive contrast, and Narrow-Angle Scattering which reduces clarity.

2. Lighting Conditions

Under normal lighting conditions, privacy glass plays optimum clarity, artificial light or uneven lighting conditions adversely affect the appearance of Smart Glass and should be taken into consideration.

With high-quality products, this haze will barely be noticeable if this slight haze is a concern we can make recommendations on how to diminish it.

3. Smart film is designed for indoor use only.

While our smart film is made with the best materials available it still is an electric device and may become damaged if exposed to excessive moisture and should not be used outdoors. Privacy film can be used indoors in moisture-prone areas and cleaned with liquid, so long as the edges of the film are covered with silicone to prevent damage and water penetration.

4. Silicone

Using any acidic silicone or unknown chemical components will cause permanent damage and Smart Film delamination. Use only neutral cure (non-acidic) silicone sealants.

5. Busbars

The busbar area is the most delicate part of the film as this is where the wires connect. If it&#;s damaged the film will no longer switch from clear to frosted. It will always be in the frosted state so you should pay extra attention to this area and handle it with care.

If requested PriWatt&#; Film without leads attached, begin by carefully soldering the electrical cables to the copper busbars.
NOTE: Special &#;Anchor&#; is installed on each busbar. DO NOT SOLDER TO &#;ANCHOR&#;

6. Yellowing

Some smart films will slowly discolor as they are exposed to UV light and become yellowish. However, high-quality PDLC films like PriWatt, have an additional UV protective layer. PriWatt Film will not yellow with the sun, and will always look clear.

7. Delamination

The low-quality smart film can become delaminated. A factor that can lead to delamination is the peeling strength of the film. A high-quality film like PriWatt will have a strong PDLC glue that keeps the layers of the film stuck together. Low-quality films may have poor adhesiveness and peel apart even when in storage.

8. Smart Film can be scratched

Like any plastic, smart film can be scratched by dogs, cats, or small children. If you are installing privacy film on a window or door that your pet or young children will constantly be in contact with. You will want to place a protective liner over the top of the film to protect it from scratches.
