Fitting a wooden floor requires great skill, which is learnt over time. Some homeowners let their builder fit their new floor as part of a renovation project but, although they may have some of the skills required, it&#;s the details that can elevate a floor and make all the difference. We have a wealth of experience in fitting wooden floors and pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and high level of craftsmanship. Here are our top 5 design features that we use to create really special wood flooring.

A well fitted wooden floor will bring years of enjoyment

The Design Process

To make a new wooden floor looks its absolute best, the design has to be very clearly planned. Some rooms are more complicated than others and will require thorough designing before any wood is actually laid. This is particularly important with parquet and chevron wood flooring. Getting the perfect alignment takes proper preparation, especially if the design incorporates different levels, steps and awkward shaped rooms. In this instance, the right experience and skills are the key to creating a beautiful, long-lasting floor.

Framing Fireplaces with Wooden Borders

Fireplaces are usually the main focal point of a room, so this is where everybody will be looking. No matter how beautiful the wooden floor is, gaps and uneven levels will compromise the overall look. We like to frame the fireplace so it really stands out as a special feature. Depending on the chosen floor, we can either do this using boards or parquet blocks. We ensure that any cuts are even, so the frame is well balanced and doesn&#;t distract from the beauty of the actual fireplace. Our frames are designed to complement special features, working in harmony with decorative features.

Integrated Door Mats

Grit and dirt do not mix well with wooden floors, so it&#;s advisable to place door mats just inside doors. Loose mats are a dangerous trip hazard. As they are not fixed into place, they are prone to sliding around the floor. To avoid this, we like to incorporate a door mat into our designs, which are framed to match the floor. A mat is then inserted into place, to create a neat, practical and stylish feature.

Skirting Boards

In older properties, damaged skirting boards are often replaced so the wood flooring sits neatly underneath. However, in listed properties or where homeowners want to keep the existing skirting in place, we have developed our own specialist method of under cutting the skirting boards. This means that new wood flooring sits neatly underneath, with minimal disruption. We can also fit new skirting boards, and shape these to fit in any room, following curves and unusual angles. This project in Wimbledon is a good example of our work...

Finishing Touches

The details are so important to us, which is why we always like to include decorative finishing touches. We are particularly proud of our work around the edges of rooms, where our detailing mirrors architectural features and architraves. We use mitred corners, so the pattern in the floor is an exact match to the feature we are copying. Our experience means that we can make complicated cuts with minimal wastage.
