Recently, the Hebei Province liquid air energy storage project, under the “Challenge and Lead” initiative, has been completed and has successfully connected to the grid. This marks the first grid-connected liquid air energy storage project in China.
Construction began in late December last year, and by August of this year, the main construction of the project was completed. System commissioning was successfully finished in September. According to staff from Hebei Construction Investment Storage Technology Co., Ltd., the project has now entered the preparation stage for trial operation and is expected to be completed as scheduled.
Liquid air energy storage is an innovative energy storage technology that converts electrical energy into the internal energy of high-pressure, low-temperature air, enabling effective energy storage and management. Its advantages, including large-scale long-duration energy storage, cleanliness, safety, longevity, and independence from geographic limitations, allow for a wide range of applications. As a significant engineering practice under the Hebei Province's science and technology program, the successful implementation of this liquid air energy storage project will lay the foundation for the industrial application of this technology.
