Heymi Bahar, a senior analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA), stated at the opening ceremony of the 17th Global Photovoltaic Conference in Shanghai on the 11th that China plays a crucial role in the global markets for PV, wind, and hydropower. "China is number one in all these different areas."

Regarding China's impact on global renewable energy development, Bahar emphasized that due to its substantial renewable energy capacity, China warrants comprehensive analysis. He projected that China's renewable energy capacity will surpass 2000 gigawatts from 2023 to 2028, which is approximately three times the growth observed from 2017 to 2022. Solar energy is expected to account for the largest proportion of this growth.

Bahar also highlighted accelerating growth in other countries worldwide. The European Union and the United States are providing incentives for renewable energy industry development; he anticipates their respective renewable energy capacity growth to exceed 400 GW and 300 GW from 2023 to 2028. Additionally, emerging markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and South America are poised to become significant markets for renewables above the gigawatt level as they work towards meeting their carbon emission targets.

"China's unparalleled contribution to global climate change cannot be overstated," said Bahar. He stressed that without China's involvement, there would be limited progress in developing renewable energy technologies such as wind and solar cells.

In conclusion, Bahar called for international cooperation and fair play. He underscored that international collaboration is essential for achieving faster and more effective progress towards near-zero emissions through fair competition."
